Students of the Thermal-Hydraulic Research Laboratory Awarded at the 2019 ANS Student Conference

The 2019 ANS Student Conference was held at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Students from the Thermal Hydraulic Research Laboratory presented research in the Thermal Hydraulics and Fluids Division. From the seven universities present within the division, our laboratory took home top awards within the division.

First year Graduate student Garland Alec Porter won Best in Thermal Hydraulics and Fluids for a paper/presentation titled “Comparing Lateral Pressure Distributions on the Surface of Tubes within a Helical Coil Steam Generator.” Alec has worked at the THR Lab since his junior year as an undergraduate student, presenting twice before at student conferences.

Third year Graduate student Marilyn Delgado won the Top Paper award for the paper titled “Shell-side flow characteristics within a specific Helical Coil Steam Generator”. Among all of the papers submitted to the conference, five were selected to receive this award.
